Ralph influenced my thinking profoundly and much of my practice and my recent book owes more to him than anyone else. He was a steadfast colleague, a relentless critic and provocateur; many people were enraged by his uncompromising writing, and yet when you met him you encountered reflexive humility and deep humanity. I loved him.
